The NEPA Elite boys played in Saturday’s Team Final Red Showcase at Allentown Allen High School and three of the four teams came home with 2-0 records.
The NEPA Elite Cooper 17U team had just six players available for most of the two games, but still managed to defeat Athletes Plus, 73-69, and Rock Top, 68-47, to run its winning streak to four games.
Mason Fedor from Abington Heights scored 21 points in both wins, putting him in double figures in all five of the team’s games and making him the leading scorer in four of them.
James Pettinato, Pat Walsh and Joe Macciocco helped the Cooper team stand up to pressure in the first game.
Fedor hit three 3-pointers while scoring 15 points in the first half of the opener when Macciocco also made two 3-pointers to help create a 32-32 halftime tie.
All six players who finished the game had at least four points in the second half with three of them joining Fedor in double figures.
Dane Schutter had 9 of his 14 points in the second half to match Macciocco for second-leading scorer. Walsh had 10 of his 12 in the second half.
After making six 3-pointers in the first game, the Cooper team hit 10 in the second.
Walsh and Pettinato each made three 3-pointers. Walsh had 12 points and Pettinato 11.
Kole Conforti hit twice from beyond the arc while adding eight points. Fedor and Schutter, who finished with seven points, added one each.
Pettinato is from Scranton Prep; Walsh from Abington Heights; Macciocco from Old Forge; Schutter from Wyoming Area; and Conforti from Scranton.
The NEPA Elite Coyle 17U team ripped Pennsylvania Aces, 77-39, and Athletes-Plus New York, 73-53.
Will Marion from Abington Heights hit five early 3-pointers to help the Coyle team build a quick, 20-point lead over the Aces.
Danny Nemitz from Mid Valley also had a strong all-around game.
The NEPA Elite Joyce 16U team routed ESYC, 51-22, then topped Team Final Red, 62-48.
The Joyce team used an effective 1-2-2 press to score the game’s first 13 points on the way to a 35-8 halftime lead in the opener.
Brycen Martin from Scranton Prep made five 3-pointers against Team Final Red and the Joyce team again benefited from its defensive pressure.
The NEPA Elite Miller 15U team lost twice, falling 53-18 to Team Final Red, then putting together a stronger effort before losing to Reading KTB, 54-48.
James Pappas from Scranton Prep scored 13 points and Demaja Dunston from Mid Valley had 8 in the second game.
