NEPA Elite Coyle 17U boys alum and Holy Redeemer senior Justice Shoats added to his list of athletic honors with Thursday morning’s announcement by Pennsylvania Sports Writers that he was a second-team choice on the Class 3A all-state boys team.

Shoats was a third-team Hoop Group Showcase League all-star for NEPA Elite last summer. His many previous high school basketball honors include’s District 2 Player of the Year award for the 2021-22 season.

The selection comes one day after Old Forge junior Joe Macciocco, a member of this year’s NEPA Elite Cooper 17U team, was named to the third team in Class 2A.

Both Shoats and Macciocco led their team to Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state semifinals.

Shoats, also a defending state champion in the long jump and an all-star wide receiver/defensive back in football, scored 29 points in the state semifinal when Holy Redeemer fell, 73-72, in overtime to eventual state champion Devon Prep. He led the Royals to Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 and District 2 Class 3A titles, leading the division in scoring with more than 20 points per game.

Shoats is the ninth NEPA Elite player to receive Pennsylvania all-state recognition so far this year. The Class 4A, 5A and 6A boys teams still have not been announced.

Moriah Murray and Ciera Toomey from Dunmore in Class 4A, Kylie Lavelle from Riverside in Class 3A and Kaci Kranson from Holy Cross in Class 2A were all repeat first-teamer selections on the girls teams. Kaeli Romanowski from Western Wayne made the second team in Class 3A while Olivia Smelas from Jim Thorpe made the third team in Class 4A.

All six played last summer for the NEPA Elite Clark 17U team that won the Hoop Group Showcase League girls championship,

Vatijah Davis from Pocono Mountain West, Clark 17U team player this year, was a second-teamer in Class 6A.
