Kylie Lavelle’s collegiate debut turned out to be an award-winning effort.
Lavelle learned Monday that she had been selected as the first Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week this season, covering the time period of Nov. 7-13.
The NEPA Elite Clark 17U and Riverside High School alum went 8-for-12 from the floor while scoring 20 points Thursday in an 84-58 victory over Rider.
Lavelle continues a trend of sparkling debuts for graduates of the NEPA Elite team, which started last year with Rachael Rose and Cecelia Collins.
Rose was the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week eight times and wound up as Freshman of the Year for her performance with the University of South Carolina Upstate. Also an honorable mention conference all-star, the Scranton Prep graduate has since transferred to Wofford University.
Collins made the Patriot League All-Rookie Team after a season in which she was the Rookie of the Week four times. Another Scranton Prep graduate, she opened this season as one of five Patriot League preseason all-stars.
Lavelle, a teammate of Rose and Collins for the first Hoop Group Showcase League championship in the NEPA Elite’s debut season, is attempting to follow in their footsteps as an impact freshman.
In her first game, the 6-foot-2 freshman forward also had six rebounds and three steals.
Lavelle is back on the court Tuesday at noon when Drexel plays at Philadelphia rival La Salle in a City 6 matchup.
